  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 5 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 & 1/2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • juice from half a lemon (about 2 tablespoons)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C) and place a baking sheet on the middle rack.
  2. Prepare your apples by peeling and slicing them into thin pieces.
  3. In a skillet, combine sliced apples with lemon juice, brown sugar, granulated sugar, flour, salt, cinnamon, and mix well.
  4. Cook over medium heat for about 20 minutes until the apples are tender but firm.
  5. Once cooled, roll out your pie crust into a deep dish and fill it with the apple mixture.
  6. Cover with another layer of dough; crimp edges to seal and cut slits for ventilation.
  7. Brush the top with milk or beaten egg and sprinkle raw sugar before placing it in the oven.
  8. Bake at high heat for 15 minutes then reduce to 350°F (175°C) and bake until golden brown.
