Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 ¼ teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ¾ cup warm milk
  • 1 egg
  • 7 tablespoons unsalted butter (divided)
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • ½ cup green onions, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, combine warm milk, sugar, and yeast; let sit until foamy (5–10 minutes).
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour and salt. Add egg, softened butter, and yeast mixture; stir until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 8–10 minutes until smooth.
  4. Place dough in a greased bowl; cover with a damp towel and let rise in a warm place until doubled (about 1 hour).
  5. For the garlic butter mixture, combine melted butter, minced garlic, salt, pepper, oregano (if using), chili flakes (optional), and green onions in a small bowl.
  6. Punch down risen dough; roll out into a rectangle. Spread garlic butter mixture evenly over dough.
  7. Roll tightly into a log; place seam side down in a greased loaf pan.
  8. Cover and let rise for another 20 minutes while preheating the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  9. Brush top with remaining garlic butter and bake for 28–32 minutes until golden brown.
